Specialist Areas

Independent Living Skills

Students within the College phase have weekly access to the schools purpose built Independent Living Skills flat.   The aim of the ILS flat is to help learners become as independent as possible within their own home, offering real life experiences to; cook, clean and complete general household tasks in a safe learning environment.  The ILS flat is fully equipped to suit a range of learners and offers, the opportunity for students to learn environmental controls through their eye gaze. 

Performing Arts

Students are offered timetabled access to our purpose built Performing Arts studio, equipped with specialist sound and lighting.  Students work with our Performing Arts tutor to prepare songs and dances for our Christmas and Summer show. 

Sunflower Cafe

The Sunflower Café is a pupil led cafe which prepares and serves lunches on set days a week.  College pupils work alongside their class teacher to prepare a range of hot and cold meals, which are then sold alongside drinks and snacks.  Students also learn to operate the till as well as being responsible for other daily tasks such as; restocking fridges, tidying and cleaning

Multi Use Games Area (MUGA)

Situated at the back of the playground is Shorefields Multi Use Games Area.  This area is designed for a range of sporting activities and features our brand new outside gym and our outside table tennis table alongside our astro turf football pitch.  

Cinema Room

Available to College students is our purpose built Cinema Room.  The Cinema room boasts a large interactive screen and soft padded sensory seating. 

Hydrotherapy

The school has it's own purpose build hydrotherapy pool which has just been refurbished.  and is a warm, inviting and engaging space for learners to complete their physiotherapy exercises.  Students access the hydrotherapy when they have hydrotherapy listed as an area of need on their Education Health Care Plan.  The hydrotherapy pool is fitted with overhead hoist tracking, spanning the whole pool as well as; sensory wash lights, sparkle clouds, floating lights, bubble stone and state of the art sound system. 

Sensory Room

Our sensory rooms comes equipped with; bubble tube, ultra violet light, sensory touch lights and soundboards. We also have equipment to beam images onto the floor or a chair top work tray. Classes have time tabled slots to use this resource to help meet the sensory needs of their pupils. 

Soft Play

We have a range of soft play rooms, accessible to all students.  All students are offered access to soft play rooms on a timetabled basis, whereby students are encouraged to work on their social communication through play. 

Sensory Garden

We are proud to have an outdoor Interactive Sensory Garden, which provides a bespoke area that improves physical fitness, health, mood and cognition. Children can come here to play and explore, stimulating their senses.  There is a dual axis roundabout which rotates and rocks, a climbing structure, mud kitchen and water play area. We also have a summer house in the Sensory Garden, where children can enjoy interacting with sensory toys and relax in a calm, quiet environment.
